HEALTH

CEA & MDR1 clear. Normal echocardiogram in 12/2022. 24-hr Holter monitor recording on 12/7/22 noted presence of ventricular escape beats, which were deemed by a boarded cardiologist to be a normal high vagal tone in the body, commonly seen with athletic hearts. Thyroid test results from 6/24/23 pending. OFA eye testing pending. Has a littermate diagnosed with Addison’s disease. ACTH stim test done 5/6/23 on Dresden showed normal adrenal function at this time.

STRUCTURE

A rare in-size boy last measured at 21 & 3/4“ at the withers and weighing 30 lbs. Nice overall proportions, good width, balanced moderate front and rear angles. Bone & muscling are not too heavy nor too refined. His coat color makes his front appear straighter than it is in photos, and he actually has a rather nice front assembly. Solid neckset. Topline tending toward level, and I want just a pinch more rise. Loin is nice but could be slightly longer. Croup somewhat steep. Good brisket and tuck-up. Decent spring of rib. Pasterns more bent than desired, and movement is impacted by breaking at the pasterns. He moves cleanly and from the shoulder when focused, but may resort to prancing-bordering-on-hackney when happy/silly. Correct knuckled hare feet. Typey head with decent underjaw and perfect high-set, rose ears that prick only when truly alert. Warm, intelligent expression with dark almond-shaped eyes, solid black pigment, and true black haws. Full dentition with scissors bite. Coat texture is profuse at the chest but all-over silky in texture and resists matting.

TEMPERAMENT

Dresden is a high-energy lightning bolt when he wants to be. Now that he has crested adolescence, he has a solid off-switch, although still self-motivated to run, with the spirit and heart of a true running hound. He has high drive for the lure (both plastic and squawkers), and will create his own courses across open fields if there is no lure to chase. He has had numerous successful practices on straight 200-yard courses, and we hope to begin his LGRA and ASFA career soon. Moderate-to-high prey drive outdoors, but inhibited toward our indoor cats. Nicknamed “the Mayor” for his enthusiasm around other dogs, he plays beautifully in mixed groups of dogs, whether new or familiar to him. He is the most cuddly dog I’ve ever lived with and incredibly bonded to his family. He is typically aloof but friendly with strangers. He is rather on the vocal side and earned the nickname “Best in Scream” for his penchant for sharing his feelings loudly.

BREEDING

Dresden is still young! After further development, health testing, and performance, we will evaluate his potential as a breeding animal.
