Located in the Pacific Northwest (United States), "Saxafrax" Borzoi, aka Maren, and "Wild Rushes" Borzoi, Elyse, are a co-breeding partnership. Although we have individual kennel names and separate residences in Oregon and Washington, we are a unified team when it comes to planning, breeding, whelping, raising, training, and exhibiting our borzoi.

WHO WE ARE

MAREN COUCH (they/them)

Hey all! Maren here.

I began living with borzoi and showing in conformation in 2018 with my “borrowzoi”, Jimmi. The next year, I brought home my first borzoi puppy, Shaniko, who changed everything for me (including going on to sire Saxafrax-Wild Rushes’s first litter). Today, I compete in amateur racing, AKC lure coursing, and both AKC & UKC conformation with my borzoi.

You may recognize me as one of the original administrators of the Borzoi Discord, found us through social media, or ran into us out in the wild - whatever the case, I’m happy to connect with folks to chat about all things borzoi.

I also spent 10 years professionally in the dog behavior & training world as a practice manager for a veterinary behavior clinic and co-owner of a dog behavior & training business.

ELYSE KUFELDT (she/they)

Hi :)

I’m Elyse. I purchased my first borzoi, Z, in the summer of 2012. There was no way I could have been adequately prepared for the way that she stormed through my life, rearranging every last piece of silverware in every damn drawer of my heart.

I participate largely in Conformation and Obedience, though am beginning to explore Lure Coursing and Dock Diving with my youngest, and hopeful-foundation bitch, Sprout.

I was previously a conformation & obedience/rally class assistant and co-teacher, and continue to enjoy teaching handlers how to tap into the unique bond they can have with their dog in the competition ring.
